Katrina Kaif said: “He is very gentlemanly. He will always open the door for you. If you come in, he’ll stand up and he always pays attention to the small things.”
She further added: “When we were shooting the song ‘Ishq Shava’ (for JTHJ), it was freezing cold. As soon as it was called cut, he would make sure I had a blanket. You don’t see that a lot these days. Gentlemanly behaviour has gone out of fashion, so it’s nice to see it.”

Plans to shoot the song have been cancelled after Yash Chopra’s death. He died of multi-organ failure Oct 21.

He had also planned a sequence in the water (in freezing cold) and we were laughing about it. He said now we will just go to Switzerland and party,” added Katrina

Iran builds advanced drone: news report

Iran has built an advanced drone that can take off vertically and without a runway, Iranian media reported.
Iran's military regularly announces defense and engineering developments, though some analysts are skeptical of the reliability of such reports.
Abbas Jam, researcher on a project for a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone, said on Saturday that the drone would be tested that day and "unveiled" next year, according to Iran's Mehr news agency.
The unmanned aircraft "enjoys ultra-advanced technology and has been built for the first time in the world," Jam said, according to Mehr.
In October, Israel shot down a drone after it flew 25 miles into the Jewish state. Lebanese militant group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the aircraft, saying its parts had been manufactured in Iran and assembled in Lebanon.
Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said last month that the downed drone did not use his country's latest technological know-how, and that Iran possessed drones that are far more advanced.
An Iranian legislator said last month that Iran holds pictures of Israeli bases and other restricted areas obtained from the drone, although a senior Israeli military officer said to the best of their knowledge the drone had not been equipped with a camera capable of transmitting photographs.

U.K prime minister David Cameron defeated as MP’s call for real reduction in EU spending

David Cameron suffered a humiliating Commons defeat last night as Tory rebels joined Labour to demand he fights for a cut in EU spending.
He had indicated he would use Britain’s veto unless Brussels agreed to limit its budget increases to the level of inflation. But this did not satisfy the Eurosceptics in his party, who insist on a real-terms reduction.
In the first major defeat of Mr Cameron’s premiership, a total of 53 Tory backbenchers voted with Labour, which was accused of cynically shifting its position on EU spending earlier this week to embarrass the Prime Minister. Senior government figures had spent the day pleading with rebel Tories to accept that a real-terms budget freeze was the best possible outcome from a crunch EU summit next week
But ministers sat grim-faced as Commons Speaker John Bercow announced that MPs had instead backed a call for a cut by 307 votes to 294. Mr Cameron had earlier told MPs: ‘This Government is taking the toughest line in these budget negotiations of any government since we joined the European Union.
‘At best we would like it cut, at worst frozen, and I’m quite prepared to use the veto if we don’t get a deal which is good for Britain. But let’s be clear – it is in our interest to try to get a deal because a seven-year freeze would keep our bills down compared to annual budgets.

Economic confidence in the Eurozone hits 3 year low

Eurozone’s economic confidence in October as reflected by the Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) hit the lowest level since September 2009 at 84.5 points, the European Commission said Tuesday.
In the eurozone, marked decreases of confidence in the sectors of industry and construction outweighed the improvement in the retail trade sector, while confidence in services and among consumers remained broadly stable, the Commission said.
This is the eighth month in a row that the eurozone has seen economic confidence declining. Experts cited the figure as a sign of further economic contraction in the single-currency area.
The ESI now appears consistent with annual contractions in eurozone gross domestic product (GDP) of around 2.5 percent, McKeown said. GDP contracted by 0.2 percent in the second quarter this year, according to Eurostat.
“That implies very steep quarterly falls in GDP in the next few quarters and is consistent with our well below consensus forecast of a 2.5 percent drop in GDP in 2013,” McKeown added.

Silvio Berlusconi, former Italian prime minister and famous ‘lady’s man’, sentenced to jail in tax fraud case

Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi was yesterday sentenced to four years in jail for tax fraud – only for his sentence to be immediately cut.
The 76-year-old’s prison term was swiftly reduced to one year because of a 2006 amnesty law aimed at reducing prison overcrowding.
However, legal experts said last night that, because of his age and Italy’s lengthy appeals process, it is unlikely that he will spend any time behind bars.
Berlusconi and four others, convicted for their part in what judge Edoardo D’Avossa described as a ‘significant tax evasion’, were also fined ten million euros.
In addition, the billionaire media tycoon was banned from public office for five years
The 76-year-old billionaire businessman, who was among 11 defendants on trial, is expected to remain free until the appeals process is exhausted. In Italy, cases must pass two levels of appeal before the verdicts are final.
The conviction was the media mogul’s first in a career seemingly dogged by criminal probes and trials that have all ended in acquittal or were thrown out after time ran out to prosecute.
Just last week, he appeared in the same courthouse for another trial in which he is accused of paying for sex with an under-age teenager and then trying to cover it up.
But today, the media mogul wasn’t in the courtroom for the verdict, which comes two days after he announced he will not run in Italy’s upcoming elections.
Prosecutors allege the defendants were behind a scheme to purchase the rights to broadcast U.S. movies on Berlusconi’s private television networks through a series of offshore companies and had falsely declared the payments to avoid taxes.
Prosecutors further alleged the inflated the price for the TV rights of some 3,000 films as they relicensed them internally to Berlusconi’s networks, pocketing the difference amounting to around €250million (£200million).
Other charges of false accounting and false statements in financial reports were thrown out because the statute of limitations expired.
The three-time premier stepped down last November after Italy came under mounting market pressure to deal with its high debt load and Berlusconi failed to come up with persuasive financial reforms.

World Military Spending

Global military expenditure stands at over $1.7 trillion in annual expenditureat current prices for 2011 (or $1.63 trillion dollars at constant 2010 prices), and has been rising in recent years.
After a decline following the end of the Cold War, recent years have seen military spending increase
(1991 figures are unavailable. Chart uses 2010 constant prices for comparison.)
  • World military expenditure in 2010 is estimated to have reached $1.63 trillion at 2010 prices;
  • This represents a 1.3 per cent increase in real terms over 2008 and a 50 per cent increase since 2001;
  • This corresponds to 2.6 per cent of world gross domestic product (GDP), or approximately $236 for each person in the world;
The USA with its massive spending budget, is the principal determinant of the current world trend, and its military expenditure now accounts for just under half of the world total, at 41% of the world total;
SIPRI has commented in the past on the increasing concentration of military expenditure, i.e. that a small number of countries spend the largest sums. This trend carries on into 2010 spending. For example,
  • The 15 countries with the highest spending account for over 81% of the total;
  • The USA is responsible for 41 per cent of the world total, distantly followed by the China (8.2% of world share), Russia (4.1%), UK and France (both 3.6%)
Military spending is concentrated in North America, Europe, and increasingly, Asia:

US economy adds 171,000 jobs in Oct

Jobs

Washington: The US added 171,000 new jobs in October while the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 7.9 per cent, in the last litmus test of economic recovery, four days before the presidential election that is evenly poised.
The unemployment rate rose slightly to 7.9 per cent in October, from 7.8 per cent in September, as more workers joined the labour force, the US Bureau of Labour Statistics report today said, adding employment rose in professional and business services, health care and retail trade.
Total non-farm payroll employment increased by 171,000 in October, the report said.
The latest figures are probably good news for President Barack Obama who takes on his Republican rival Mitt Romney on November 6 in the race for the White House.
"The figures determined that there has been a net job gain under his (Obama's) presidency, and they allayed widespread suspicion that the previous month's large drop in the unemployment rate, below 8 per cent for the first time since he took office, might have been a one-month statistical fluke," the New York Times commented.
Obama will face voters with the highest unemployment rate of any incumbent since President Franklin D Roosevelt.
Hitting out at Obama, Romney slammed his economic policies saying, "today's increase in the unemployment rate is a sad reminder that the economy is at a virtual standstill."
"When I'm president, I'm going to make real changes that lead to a real recovery, so that the next four years are better than the last," Romney said in a statement.
"For four years, President Obama's policies have crushed America's middle class," Romney said.
The Obama campaign defended its economic policies and sought to take advantage of today's data.

Aftab Shivdasani to marry Nin Dusanj

#

"If Aftab has been unlucky in his career, he has been even unluckier in love," says Aftab's best friend, director Vikram Bhatt who also reveals that Aftab has finally found true love. Aftab, who has appointed Vikram Bhatt his unofficial mentor, is all set to marry Nin Dusanj at the earliest. And Bhatt had a big hand in approving of Nin as the perfect wife for Aftab.

Vikram recently spoke to Aftab's new lady-love and was bowled over by her devotion to Aftab. Says Vikram, "Yes, I did speak to Aftab's girlfriend. I can tell you this much, it's a very rare kind of love that they share. Aftab has been singularly unfortunate in love. He has been used and discarded by women. The thing about Nin is that she is not concerned with what he does, or what his stardom quotient is. She just loves him for who he is. When I spoke to her, I could feel this unconditional love that she has for Aftab. I think my friend has found his true love."

Aftab can now heave a sigh of relief. He decided to make his relationship with Nin permanent only if Vikram approved of it. Apparently, Aftab trusts Vikram's judgment more than his own. In fact, the actor whose career touched rock-bottom in recent years drove to Vikram for help. Vikram helped Aftab to revaluate his life and re-invent himself.

Says Vikram, "Emotionally and professionally, Aftab had hit a low. His career and life were going nowhere. He came to me because we go back a long way. We've shared a deep friendship and there was no one else he could turn to. Aftab needed career help. I completely empathized, not only because he was a dear friend, but also because I had gone through the same experience. When my career hit rock-bottom in 2007, I decided to take a clean break. It's tough to leave your work which is your life, for a longish period. But I told Aftab it's the only way to re-energize your career."

Aftab stopped signing films in 2010, took a year off to work on his physique and his performing abilities as an actor. He then came back to his friend. Vikram Bhatt signed him for 1920: Evil Returns.

Says Vikram, "Aftab is born-again as an actor and as a human being. His life has come together. He's finally found the perfect partner and is hopefully en route to a second lease in his career. If I've played any part in the process of helping Aftab to find his bearings again, I'm happy."

Apparently, Aftab's wedding is being planned in early 2013. Needless to say, Vikram would play the best man and host the reception. Aftab admitted he's found love just when he needed the most. "Yes, we will get married. Nin was Hong Kong based. She has now relocated to India. She is a Punjabi girl, born and raised in London. But she's been working in Hong Kong for the past six years."

'1.1 mn millionaires during Obama tenure'

Washington : The US added 1.1 million millionaires since President Barack Obama was elected in 2008, a recent survey from British analyst WealthInsight reports.
According to the London-based wealth-analysis group, the figure means the number of millionaires has grown by 28.6 percent.
This is equivalent to over a thousand new millionaires per day during Obama’s first three years.
“It doesn''t really fit the campaign rhetoric that one side is against the rich and the other is for," WealthInsight analyst Christopher Rocks said.
"The total number of millionaires is growing and will continue to grow whether Obama or [Mitt] Romney is elected," Rocks added.
According to the Huffington Post, the group defines millionaires, also referred throughout the report as “high net worth individuals” (HNWIs), as individuals with net assets in excess of one million dollars, excluding primary residences.
Business Insider said that the super rich have been the fastest to recover following the financial services sector.

Pakistan's Afridi and Younus chased for unpaid tax bill

Former Pakistan captains Younus Khan and Shahid Afridi were among four senior national cricketers being chased by the country's financial authority for unpaid taxes totaling 80 million rupees.
A spokesman for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said notices had been send to Younus, Afridi, Abdul Razzaq and Umar Akmal, for unpaid tax.
"The notices have been served on these four players as they didn't pay taxes on income they earned from commercials, their annual contracts and other sources which is around 80 million rupees," the spokesman said.
The players had been given 15 days to pay or face penalties.
Earlier this year team mates Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, Umar Akmal, Azhar Ali, and Taufeeq Umar had all been warned over unpaid tax, the spokesman said.
Pakistan's tax authorities have adopted a stricter approach to collecting taxes from celebrities and athletes to meet annual tax targets.
Pakistan's cricketers are some the highest earners in the country, with senior players receiving a base salary of about 313,000 rupees, and match payments of 375,000 rupees for test matches and 275,000 rupees for one day internationals.

Lance Armstrong, a story of doping and deception

Doping and deception: the yellow colour of theLivestrong band will never mean the same thing again to the 80 million Lance Armstrong fans who bought it.Armstrong’s unprecedented seven consecutive Tour de France victories from 1999 to 2005 depended on lies and illegal behaviour, but what is worse is that the character most people thought they knew has turned out to be someone very different. Character is the most important virtue that sport is supposed to celebrate.
Now he has been banned for life and stripped of his Tour victories. It may not be enough.
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency in a damning report released on Oct. 12 said that now retired Armstrong led “the most sophisticated, professionalized and successful doping program that sport has ever seen”.
he only thing that mattered to him was the winner’s yellow jersey of the Tour de France. The journey, not so much. Armstrong was right with the title of his book, “it wasn’t about the bike” anymore. The body, which had barely survived cancer, was pushed to its limit by a dangerous bouquet of drugs.
He tested positive for corticosteroid in 1999 after winning his maiden Tour title. His doctors quickly got into a huddle and produced a backdated prescription of an ointment for his “saddle sore”.
A year later, he nearly got caught before a race in Spain, when soon after consuming “oil” (testosterone mixed in olive oil), he learned from his tea mate George Hincapie that anti-doping agents were in the hotel to carry out tests. Armstrong pulled out of the race. Later, he went on to win his second Tour title.

New penis size survey: U.S. ranks 11th. Right behind Japan

Maybe Japan can’t beat the US. in the number of Olympics medals, but there’s one discipline where they take the lead.
A six-millimeter lead, to be precise. It’s not exactly an Olympic discipline, but as far as national pride goes, it‘s not to be underestimated.
It’s not swimming. It’s not running.
It’s penis size.
According to the latest, most comprehensive study to date using 500,000 males, the average length of a Japanese male’s erection is 13.56 centimeters (5.33 inches), with a diameter of 3.53 cm (1.39“) at the head and 3.19 cm (1.25”) at the shaft, writes Tokyo Reporter.
The statistic places Japanese males 10th worldwide, behind — among others — France, Australia, Italy, even Thailand, which according to Tenga boasts the largest penises in Asia.
But what the Tokyo Reporter was especially astonished about is that Japan placed ahead of the United States, which ranks 11th, with an average of 12.9 cm (5.08“).
On the other side of the great penile divide were South Koreans, whose average of 9.6 cm (3.78”) made them the shortest among males in the 17 Asian countries for which measurements were available. The survey was conducted by Tenga, a manufacturer of the world’s most popular male-masturbation merchandise.
